About Constellations

5 Element Constellations

The Chinese system of 5 Elements (Fire, Earth, Metal, Water, and Wood) has been used for thousands to understand systemic dynamics between phenomena. It was utilized in Feng Shui, Martial arts, music, military strategy, governance, and Chinese medicine.

Since 2006, John has pioneered the integration of Systemic Constellations techniques with the 5 Elements of Chinese Medicine. In 5 Element Constellations, can help us understand how natural phenomena manifest in the body when in health or illness the dynamics of our health are revealed in a multidimensional representation. This integrated approach provides a dynamic environment in a workshop setting to learn, release, and restore our physical and energetic health. Acupressure is used during the Constellations to support and stabilize the resolution of the Constellation. John has found this to be a helpful tool to work with people without the need to engage in their life’s story and yet clear the conditions (feelings), which perpetuate blockages or unhelpful aspects of the story.

Five Elements

The Chinese system of 5 Elements (Fire, Earth, Metal, Water, and Wood) has been used for thousands of years as a matrix to view the subtle expressions of balance and imbalance within the human body. Based on Taoist principles.

Fire is our ability to Love and condition of our Heart. Feeling of love and presence.

Earth is our ability to be stable and grounded in the world. Also, reflective of our relationship with our mother and our ability to nourish ourselves.

Metal is our ability to use structure to serve our life. Reflects our relationship with our Father.

Water is our ability to flow with life's challenges. The mystery of life and what is beneath the surface

Wood is our ability to grow and drive in vital action in Life. Our family’s roots impact us here.

Family Constellations

Family Constellations is a highly effective method for unlocking deeply held emotional patterns within our family of origin. It is an experiential way to work on issues that affect our health, relationships, and ability to give and receive love.

Original text: Renowned German psychotherapist Bert Hellinger spearheaded the creation of Family Constellations with a group of psychotherapists. A method they found helpful to unlock difficult issues within a Family. He developed a form of therapy and discovered what he calls “the knowing field” that operates within each family system. This knowing field reveals information or hidden dynamics within any system (family, business, organization or body). In a workshop environment, we are able to work directly with these hidden dynamics and help release burdens that we may unconsciously be holding on to. This helps restore the feeling of love and ease within our family system.

The 5 Elements: A Powerful Emotional Regulation Tool and wisdom from its roots in Chinese Medicine

In the West, we don’t have a system that observes our emotional wellness as having clear physical expression. Emotional self-regulation is the ability to respond to life's ongoing demands that foster inward stability and ease. An individual can learn to emotionally self-regulate. Learning to be sufficiently flexible to permit spontaneous emotional expression and delay spontaneous reactions as needed.

The 5 Elements and Constellation can give us a framework to observe how we tend to regulate and help us develop emotional intelligence. This system offers a holistic approach to health, recognizing that emotional well-being is deeply connected to the body's energy system. Two fundamental aspects of this system—the Meridians and the 5 Elements—provide a framework for understanding and regulating emotions.

Meridians: Energy Highways of Emotion

Meridians are pathways through which Qi (vital energy) flows, connecting organs, emotions, and physiological functions. Each meridian is associated with a specific organ and an emotional state:

  • Liver Meridian – Anger & Frustration
  • Heart Meridian – Joy & Overexcitement
  • Spleen Meridian – Worry & Overthinking
  • Lung Meridian – Grief & Sadness
  • Kidney Meridian – Fear & Anxiety

When your energy seems blocked or out of balance it might be helpful to assess the amount of emotional distress you are under. This distress can show as physical symptoms, such as digestive issues from excessive worry (Spleen) or headaches from pent-up anger (Liver). This is wher a 5 Elements Constellation can be helpful and supporting techniques like acupuncture, acupressure, and Qigong can help restore balance and promote emotional harmony.

The 5 Elements Constellations and Emotional Balance

Here are a few suggested methods to balance your emotions. First, it is helpful to understand just a little bit about the elements: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water. Each element corresponds to an organ system, an emotion, and a regulatory strategy:

  1. Wood (Liver & Gallbladder) – Anger & Growth
    1. Balance through movement, deep breathing, and creative expression.
  2. Fire (Heart & Small Intestine) – Joy & Passion
    1. Regulate by calming overstimulation with meditation and grounding practices.
  3. Earth (Spleen & Stomach) – Worry & Nurturing
    1. Support with mindfulness, proper nourishment, and self-care.
  4. Metal (Lungs & Large Intestine) – Grief & Letting Go
    1. Heal by practicing breathwork, expressing emotions, and embracing change.
  5. Water (Kidneys & Bladder) – Fear & Willpower
    1. Strengthen with rest, hydration, and cultivating resilience.

By using the 5 Elements and 5 Elements Constellations, we can identify emotional imbalances and apply targeted strategies for healing. This approach empowers individuals to manage their emotions effectively, fostering greater mental clarity, resilience, and overall well-being.
